GettySnoop Dogg and Patrick Stewart have invested in a British medical cannabis research firm, with the D-o-double-g dishing out $10 million to the UK start-up.
Oxford Cannabinoid Technologies (OCT) have a bright future ahead of them thanks to the veteran rapper, who made the donation through his venture capital firm, Casa Verde Capital.
The company focuses on the ‘ancillary’ cannabis industry like health and wellness companies, financial services and laboratory technology, among a whole heap of other stuff.
PAIn an interview with Esquire in 2016, Snoop talked at length about the cultural shift surrounding marijuana, both medical and recreational.
He said:
The world [is] going crazy for marijuana and it’s America’s topic of conversation right now, as far as the legalisation of it all.
The health issues and higher health insurance and the money — it’s making and Denver, Colorado and other parts of the world where it’s becoming legalised. [sic]
It’s becoming a big business now. It’s good to show the intricacies of some dealers – female dealers – and giving the insight of the underworld before it becomes the over-world.
PASnoop continued:
I feel like marijuana is a real peace conversation – what I mean by that is the form of peace in a conversation.
Any time you have a couple of people smoking, they’re never hostile or angry. The area that we’re in now, I’m thankful that they’re trying to make it legalised because, with alcohol and tobacco, you see all the tragedies that have happened with that.
I’m glad that we can see something different. As far as me being on the forefront and pushing, for a long time I was on the wrong side and now I’m on the right side.
Being able to have a network and having a television show, I show that it’s fun, it’s cool and the hustle of it all. [sic]
OCT uses 21st century technology and modern drug development standards to explore the potential of cannabinoid medication and to bring pioneering treatments to the market.
As medical cannabis markets open around the world, they believe it’s important to develop a deeper understanding of the molecular actions of cannabinoids.
Another happy investor has come in the shape of actor Patrick Stewart.
In the past, he’s spoken about using medical marijuana in the treatment of severe arthritis, telling the Metro:
I am proud to become a patron of OCT. It’s wonderful that OCT have got together the funding that means that Britain will lead the way in what is, in my view, one of the world’s most exciting fields of medical research.
The possibilities seem to me to be virtually limitless.

At a time when medical cannabis markets are opening across the world, it is still surprising how little focus appears to be dedicated to understanding the underlying molecular actions of cannabinoids.
We want to help fill this knowledge gap, ultimately developing medical products that could help a large number of people.
