In a brilliant Facebook post a seriously injured young war veteran has explained why he is sick and tired of people assuming he’s Islamophobic because of it.

Chris Herbert was just 19-years-old when he was caught in a roadside bomb blast whilst serving in Iraq in 2007. He lost his right leg as a result of the explosion and his best friend was killed when their vehicle was hit by the bomb in Basra. In the wake of the Paris attacks as well as other acts that have been linked to terrorist group ISIS, the former soldier took to social media to explain how, with the recent rise in racial tension, people expect him to hate Muslims.

In an empassioned Facebook post Chris wrote:

Getting frustrated by some people expecting racism from me, because I got blown up. Here it is:Yes. A Muslim man blew…

Now working as a Promotions and Events Manager, Chris, from Portsmouth, highlights the fact that many Muslim people helped with his care and rehabilitation back in the UK, as well as supporting his family through his recovery. He goes on to point out examples when he was treated badly by some white British people, including one who pushed his wheelchair away from a lift so he could use it first and another who spat in his girlfriend’s face.

To conclude his post – which has now gone viral with more than 63,000 shares – he makes the excellent point that blaming all Muslims for the actions of groups like ISIS and the Taliban, is the same as blaming all Christians for the actions of the KKK. “Get a grip of your lives, hug your family and get back to work,” is Chris’ well-placed advice.
