There have been many ambitious and creative attempts to crowdfund online in recent years, usually for worthy causes.

But now one person has really thought outside the box and has launched what they describe as “a social experiment like no other” – that is, to use crowdfunding as a way to make themselves filthy rich.

The anonymous person launched ‘We Made A Millionaire’ last week and they promise that if their campaign is successful they will document what they do with the cash over the course of a year on YouTube. Well, that’s good of them…

On the site, the mysterious person wrote:

The collective power of the internet has the ability to make a complete stranger a millionaire… I am that stranger.

Despite the campaign website, We Made A Millionaire, rightly pointing out that “you don’t know who I am, where I’m from, or how I’m going to spend your money”, it has still remarkably managed to raise over $10,000 (£6,400) since its launch on July 28.

It’s an ambitious idea but, hey, stranger things have happened. As the site’s promotional video says, “Who knows, it could be crazy enough to work”.
