The military in South Korea has reportedly dropped ‘eight heavy bombs’ close to its border with North Korea in what has been described as a show of ‘overwhelming force’.
This comes after the North fired a ballistic missile over the island of Hokkaido in Japan on Tuesday morning, before it crashed into the sea.
South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in ordered the strike at a firing range to ‘display a strong capability to punish’ North Korea if it were to attack, writes The Independent.
South Korea said all eight MK-84 bombs hit targets at a testing ground on the country’s own soil.
The US, South Korea, and Japan are continually trying to bring Pyongyang to the negotiating table and Donald Trump has attempted to pressure China (the only major ally of North Korea), into using its influence to help.
Why can’t everybody just get along?
