In the aftermath of yet another North Korean missile strike over Japan, South Korea have threatened military action against their hostile neighbour.

Kim Jong-un’s nuclear strike has provoked a strong reaction from South Korea’s President, Moon Jae-in, who said dialogue between neighbours is ‘impossible in a situation like this’.

President Moon confirmed his country’s military power is great enough to destroy its northern neighbour ‘beyond recovery’, in the latest instalment of this worrisome ongoing nuclear pissing contest.

As reported by South Korea’s Yonhap news agency, Mr Moon said:

In case North Korea undertakes provocations against us or our ally, we have the power to destroy [them] beyond recovery.

Dialogue is impossible in a situation like this. International sanctions and pressure will further tighten to force North Korea to choose no other option but to step forward on the path to genuine dialogue.

The missile, believed to be a Hwasong-12 was fired over Japan, passing over the northern Hokkaido island at 07:06 JST yesterday, and travelled a total of about 2,300 miles, towards the Pacific Ocean.

The range of the missile is the furthest yet demonstrated and marks the nineteenth ballistic missile fired from Kim Jong-un’s arsenal this year, as part of Pyongyang’s sixth nuclear test.

Civilians in Japan posted updates from the ground on Twitter:

The UN Security Council unanimously approved new sanctions earlier this week over the nuclear test but meanwhile, Nato called for a ‘global response’ to the latest test.

The South will begin conducting their own live-fire ballistic missile tests, on the order of Mr Moon.
