With everyone’s favourite irreverent cartoon, South Park, due to return for its historic 20th season the trailer for the new series is suitably hilarious.

That’s right, 19 years after the Colorado town first hit our screens, with the groundbreaking Cartman Gets An Anal Probe, the team are back to promote the latest instalment.

In the trailer, simply titled We’ve Been There, we’re treated to a look back at some of the shows most ‘iconic’ moments alongside an ‘emotional montage’ of a dad watching his daughter grow up.

With looks back at such unforgettable scenes as ‘Cartman crapping out his mouth’, the ‘Burrito feeding scene’, ‘Bloody Mary: Randy is cured’, ‘Tom Cruise coming out of the closet’ and of course, ‘cripple fight’ it’s easy to see how the show has gone from strength to strength.

Although it may have started out with a pretty base – though undeniably funny – level of humour, it was when the guys began their genius parodies of current affairs (around season 3), turning news stories into intelligently delivered satire in lightning fast time, that the show really came into its own.

The team began editing episodes in days, quickly commenting on recent events such as the 2000 U.S. presidential election, the capture of Saddam Hussein, and the election of Barack Obama.

With season 20 due out on Comedy Central on September 14, we’ve basically been treated to a montage of some of the shows most memorable moments – although it’s been noted that my personal favourite – Scott Tenorman Must Die – didn’t make the cut…

crap

Anyway, it’s pretty much a given that the new series is going to be as satirically sharp as death’s scythe, and with everything that’s already gone on in 2016 (we’re looking at you Mr Trump), we can expect the show to be as topical, on the mark and, of course, hilarious as ever.

Keep doing what you do guys…
