One of the most exciting games coming to PlayStation VR has to be the Star Wars Battlefront expansion that places us in the cockpit of an X-Wing for glorious space battles.
Excitingly, EA has just revealed that the upcoming expansion will tie in to the Star Wars spinoff/prequel Rogue One, and is now called Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: X-Wing VR Mission, which really rolls off the tongue.
In a post on EA’s blog, developer Criterion explained that they’re working to bring the game more in line with the events of the new film, which sees a scrappy band of Rebels work together to steal the plans for the Death Star.
Producer James Svensson explained:
Rogue One is in the same time period the base game covers, so to be relevant in the ever-evolving Star Wars universe we’ve since been able to work with Lucasfilm to make the connection here.
Svensson also hinted that we’ll be taking on a bevy of classic Star Wars vessels, such as Star Destroyer’s and TIE Fighters. Obviously taking on a Star Destroyer in an X-Wing isn’t ideal, but it’ll be crazy fun.
Rogue One comes to cinemas on December 16, while the X-Wing VR Mission will be released as a free expansion to all Battlefront owners sometime after, but you’ll need PlayStation VR to play it.
