Last June, the actor who played Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode I came back into the news following a high-speed car chase with police.
Jake Lloydd topped speeds of 100mph during the chase that saw him charged with reckless driving, failure to stop, resisting arrest, and driving without a license.
Now, it’s been revealed that the 26-year-old has been moved from prison to a psychiatric facility after the actor’s mom, Lisa, told TMZ her son had been diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Lisa says she spoke with her son last week and can already see an improvement in Jake’s personality.
The child star, who abruptly ended his promising acting career just as it began taking off, has claimed in the past that his fame was putting him through ‘a living hell.’
Speaking to AV Club, Jake said that his dislike for the industry started when he was forced to do up to 60 interviews a day, and when classmates would taunt him by making light saber sounds every time they saw him. He eventually destroyed all of his Star Wars memorabilia.
And a 2009 interview shows just how disconnected Lloyd became from the industry:
There’s no timetable for his release, but the family told TMZ that they want him to take his time to get healthy.
