Developed by Undead Labs, State of Decay 2 in a nutshell, is a zombie apocalypse RPG with drop-in/drop-out cooperative play for up to four players. Mercifully, it doesn’t require an online connection if you want to play alone.
However, Undead Labs founder Jeff Strain told IGN that the sequel was going to be an MMO until they considered fan feedback:
The #1 request our fans had from State of Decay was, ‘Give me co-op multiplayer. [So we said,] ‘Let’s give our fans exactly what they want.’ So we took a couple of steps back and changed direction and that’s what State of Decay 2 is.
Indeed, it’s looking like the sequel is aiming to focus on everything that people loved about the original game. We’ve got bleak open vistas, empty highways, base building, and lots and lots of zombies to kill – check it out.
While the trailer only shows us a tiny glimpse of what State of Decay 2 has to offer, it’s looking very cool indeed. No word on a release date yet, but I’d imagine some time in 2017.
