Just when you think the bizarre circus surrounding Donald Trump’s already controversial presidency can’t get any weirder, Stephen King steps in.

Following President Trumps’s latest accusations – that Barack Obama had the phones in Trump Tower ‘tapped’ in the run-up to last year’s election – the iconic horror writer has taken to Twitter with a series of his very own conspiracy theories, reports The Independent.

Drawing inspiration from President Trump’s overtly dramatic narrative, King outlined his scenario in which Obama not only installed the wire tap in person but – even worse – had only gone and pinched ice cream from the White House!

And, most terrifying of all, he’s still hiding out at the White House… with a pair of scissors!

In truth there’s about as much evidence to back up Mr King’s allegations as there is to back up Mr Trump’s – that is to say, absolutely none.

Mr Trump compared the alleged incident to the 1972 Watergate scandal – in which the Nixon administration was proven to have bugged the offices of their Democratic opponents – and invited a ‘good lawyer’ to make a case against Mr Obama.

The Obama administration has strongly denied the allegations, with spokesman Kevin Lewis releasing a statement saying:

A cardinal rule of the Obama administration was that no White House official ever interfered with any independent investigation led by the Department of Justice.

As part of that practice, neither President Obama nor any White House official ever ordered surveillance on any U.S citizen.

Any suggestion otherwise is simply false.

I suspect it won’t be the last horror story that comes out of the current political climate…
