Stories That Look Like April Fools But Actually Aren’t

In today’s world of fake news, outrageous happenings and Donald Trump, April Fool’s Day can be a real mind fuck.

It’s hard to know whether George Osborne has actually started his own fashion line or if global warming has caused a polar bear to float to a Scottish island.

Thankfully those are fake, but there are also lots of stories that you’d hope are fool’s day jokes but are in fact actually happening, like Gary Barlow landing a role in Star Wars.

Here are some of the best stories which sound like April Fool’s jokes.

Doctors in China pulled a four-inch long worm from a man’s brain after he suffered intense migraines. The parasite entered his body as a larva when he cut his hand, and traveled up to his brain where it lived while it grew into an adult.

Neurosurgeons explained that the worm was still moving inside the brain and they had to remove it intact or else the remaining parts of its body would survive in the brain, Metro reports.

Kids will be learning Shakespeare and even maths from rap music as some schools are introducing Studytracks to modernise learning.

The innovative technique aims to use the power of musical recall to boost exam performance, the Times reports.

We’ve all been in a position where a vodka shot saves our life (before quickly ruining it again), but there was a cat who was given an emergency shot of the stuff as an antidote.

Vets administered a shot of the triple filtered alcohol to a cat to save her from being poisoned by the brake fluid she drank, the Mirror reports.

She would have certainly died if the London vets didn’t run to the nearest off license to find a spirit with high alcohol percentage to halt the effects of the poison.

In other news, what seems like the least likely people to ever find love in each other, Pamela Anderson has expressed her affections for Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

Assange has been held at the Ecuadorean Embassy in London for the last five years, and the former Baywatch star, who has visited him there, proclaimed that he was ‘one of my favourite people’ and she would not not be surprised if people reduced their connection to ‘just a sexual relationship’, the BBC reports.

Another ridiculous event taking place is the mass pillow fight in Hull. Around 200 people are reportedly going to be hitting each other with pillows and covering the city with feathers, accrediting to the Hull Daily Mail.

Seems like a waste of good pillow to me.

I didn’t know it was possible for a country to ban a type of facial hair, and it sounds like a joke, but China have actually banned ‘abnormally’ long beards.

The ban is a campaign against Islamic extremism and includes the wearing of any veils.

Today, slightly more than any other day, is a difficult one to pick out the real news from the fake.

Happy April Fool’s Day!
