A man died on board an Aer Lingus flight last night after attacking fellow passengers.
The man reportedly became ‘extremely violent’ during Flight EI 485 from Lisbon to Dublin. He began ‘biting another passenger’, forcing the crew to restrain him, according to The Mirror.
After being restrained the man, believed to be 24, fell into a state of unconsciousness before being pronounced dead on the flight.
Reports say a woman was also arrested, although it’s unclear whether this relates to the man’s death or to a separate issue.
The plane was forced to make an emergency diversion to Cork airport, where the pilot informed controllers that a passenger had ‘run amok’, injuring ‘one or two passengers’.
It’s understood another passenger was bitten when he tried to help the restrained man. He was taken to hospital after the emergency landing in Cork.
A post mortem is being carried out on the deceased man to work out the cause of death.
