A Donald Trump campaign sticker has caused controversy at a New York University after a student promised to smash a woman’s laptop for showcasing it.
18-year-old Clifford Durand took to Twitter and threatened to smash the laptop of Brianna Algazali in exchange for 7000 retweets.
Durand actually received closer to 16,000 retweets and it appeared the fate of Algazali’s machine was sealed.
However, things didn’t exactly go to plan.
According to NY Daily News Algazali was tipped off that her Trump endorsing laptop was going viral.
As you’d expect she then confronted Durand over his promise.
The Daily reported that a cup of hot green tea was thrown at Durand by the 20-year-old woman and it is alleged he may have struck her in response.
A friend of Durand said:
She raised her voice and she threw her drink on him. He looked like he was in shock. I went towards him to hold him back.
The Daily quoted another tweet from Durand’s account which admits to reacting physically.
It supposedly read:
SHE THREW HER STARBUCKS AT ME AFTER CUSSING ME OUT AND SHE GOT SHOVED IN THE NECK.
Police are apparently not involved with investigations but the university is continuing to look into events.
Algazali commented:
St. John is handling it right now I don’t want to say anything. They’re handling it the best they can, but I fear for my safety.
Durand’s Twitter has been suspended and both he and Algazali will be subject to the school’s conduct policy before further action is taken.
