All LA schools have been shut while a ‘credible terror threat’ is investigated Reuters, is reporting.

It’s believed that a member of the LA Unified School District Board of Education received a bomb threat. However it was unclear when the threat was made and which school board member received it. Regardless the situation has been considered serious enough for the district to close all schools immediately, and order all students and staff to stay away from school campuses.

Ramon Cortines, the schools superintendent, has said every school in the 640,000-pupil district would be searched. There are 1,124 schools plus other facilities, including ones for adult language instruction in the district.

Cortines said: “I think it is important that I take this precaution based upon what has happened recently and what has happened in the past… It was not to one school, two schools or three schools, but to many schools… It was ‘to students at school.'”

He added: “As superintendent I am not going to take a chance with the lives of students.”
