Alexis Mercedes Boberg, 25, from Severn, Maryland, handed herself into police on Monday (June 17) after the student at the Center of Applied Technologies North told authorities his teacher had engaged in sexual activities with him.

The teenager told police they had met up for sex at various locations in May after exchanging phone numbers at the school.

According to court documents obtained by the Capital Gazette, as per the New York Post, Boberg also communicated with the teenager on Snapchat, where messages soon turned sexual and the substitute teacher began sending explicit photos.

The teenager, whose age has not been provided by police, later met Boberg on May 24 at her grandparents’ home in Severn. He then waited outside until the substitute teacher snuck him into a back bedroom, where the two reportedly had sex.

Just days later, police say Boberg met the teen again at a mall in Glen Burnie before returning to her car, where they engaged in sexual acts.

Prior to this, the 25-year-old had taken the teenager and a friend to a snowball stand, where the trio bought snow cones before talking in her car. She then allegedly drove them to a liquor store, where she bought them mini bottles of rum which they drank before leaving.

The boy confided in his mother about what had happened, after which police were informed about the alleged encounters on June 5. His mother then applied for a court order to keep Boberg away from her son.

His mum said:

During the last 20 days, my son has been manipulated into a sexual relationship [with] his substitute teacher at school.

A spokesperson for Anne Arundel County Schools, Bob Mosier, said Boberg taught as a substitute at several schools in the district from 2017, but has since been banned from the classroom.

Mosier told WJZ-TV there is no evidence Boberg victimised any other children, and added: ‘People who would prey on children simply have no place in our school system’.

Boberg has been charged with two counts of fourth-degree sex offense for having a sexual contact with a person while in a position of authority.

She made her initial court appearance on Monday and faces up to one year in prison on each sex offense count if convicted.
