In the wake of tragic high school shooting in Florida, the long-running debate regarding gun control and reform has once again cropped up.

As if on some sort of cue, right-wing commentators have been quick to defend their right to own firearms, no matter how insensitive or ill-timed their media hot takes may be.

One person quick to make her feelings known about the ongoing debate is bleach-blonde-blue-eyed conservative commentator Tomi Lahren, who – surprise-surprise – is in full support of the pro-gun agenda.

However, her seemingly ‘insensitive’ tweets in the wake of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre, haven’t gone down well and one student who was there during the horrific tragedy, has torn into her.

Known for her provocative hot takes in regards to the ‘American way of life’ Lahren took the tragedy as an opportunity to hit out at those who are calling for stricter gun laws.

She asked the so-called ‘left’ to give the families time to mourn before they start pushing their ‘anti-gun and anti-gunowner agenda’.

She went on to add how the shooting ‘isn’t about a gun it’s about another lunatic’:

However, a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School hit out at the conservative panellist on Twitter, writing:

I was hiding in a closet for 2 hours. It was about guns. You weren’t there, you don’t know how it felt.

Guns give these disgusting people the ability to kill other human beings.

This IS about guns and this is about all the people who had their life abruptly ended because of guns.

Her response to Lahren has since been retweeted more than 314,000 times and liked over 127,000 times since being posted on Thursday, at the time of writing.

Surprisingly the firebrand conservative has remained uncharacteristically silent, only retweeting another account who was on her side of the pro-gun debate.

In the aftermath of the tragic shooting carried out by 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz – a former student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School who was expelled for disciplinary and behavioural issues – at least 17 fatalities have been confirmed so far.

Among the dead are several students who were in their freshman year as well as three faculty members.

According to The Daily Dot, Cruz was reportedly associated with a white supremacist group known as the Republic of Florida (ROF).

A spokesperson for the group later confirmed Cruz, who used an AR-15 assault rifle in his massacre, had ties to the group.

Local police in Florida apprehended him shortly after the shooting, he was then placed in custody and later charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder.

The tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School is now the 18th gun-related massacre in the United States this year.
