A man armed with a gun and a hatchet reportedly opened fire today in a movie theatre outside Nashville, Tennessee.
Police say the attacker was killed after exchanging fire with SWAT officers. It is not yet clear if anyone besides the gunman was killed or injured in the incident.
Don Aaron, a police spokesman, said one person may have been wounded by the hatchet, but the Fire Department is still checking on injuries.
A police officer found the gunman inside a theatre where ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ was playing at the Carmike Hickory 8 theatre in the suburb of Antioch.
Police said the gunman had two backpacks with him, and law enforcement officers are currently checking those.
This latest movie theatre shooting incident comes just two weeks after a gunman opened fire in a Louisiana cinema during a screening of ‘Trainwreck’ on July 23, killing two people and injuring nine more.
In the wake of that attack, the movie’s star Amy Schumer and her cousin, New York senator Chuck Schumer, called for tighter gun control in the U.S.
And with incidents like these becoming worryingly commonplace, it’s not hard to see why many are campaigning for gun laws to be changed in the U.S.
