Keith Borum and Nina Scott from Lake Ronkonkoma have been together for three years, so when they tied the knot, they probably envisaged tears being for a happy reason.

Sadly for the couple, that was not the case, with their wedding taking place in a hospital, where Keith is being treated for terminal cancer.

Despite the heart-break clouding over the occasion at Good Samaritan Hospital in New York, bride Nina claimed that she had married ‘my life, my better half’, with nurses at the hospital raising money for the couple to get married.

After spending the last 18 months in the hospital for long periods of time, Keith told the nurses all he wanted to do was wed his girlfriend, and after doctors told him the cancer was terminal, that is exactly what the nursing staff helped him to do.

Nurses helped pay for the rings and packed into the hospital room to see the duo exchange vows, with Nina claiming:

The staff just outdid themselves. We couldn’t have done it any better ourselves.

It was a touching comment on a day that was tinged with sadness, and while Keith might be facing a bleak future, he said it was still one of the ‘best days of my life’.
