The trailer for director André Øvredal’s new film has just dropped and it looks absolutely terrifying.
For anyone who thought the master of horror’s films couldn’t get any creepier than cult classic mockumentary Troll Hunter (2010), think again.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe follows a father and son coroner team – because nepotism exists in all professions – and their examination of a beautiful, mysterious Jane Doe.
With an all-star cast of Emile Hirsch, Brian Cox, Olwen Kelly and enough creepy characters to shake a stick at, this film is set to be a horror fan’s wet dream.
The narrative goes a little something like this:
Cox and Hirsch play father and son coroners who receive a mysterious homicide victim with no apparent cause of death. As they attempt to identify the beautiful young “Jane Doe,” they discover increasingly bizarre clues that hold the key to her terrifying secrets.
The full trailer’s release has film fans counting down the days until the feature film, which promises to scare the living daylights out of you, is released.
The reviews have so far been mixed with Variety dubbing the chamber horror film a ‘taut, yet often slyly funny scarefest’.
But with its heady mix of mysterious bloody murder, gore, the supernatural, suspense and an enigmatic title character, this film has everyone asking ‘Who is Jane Doe?’
The Autopsy of Jane Doe will be initially released on 21 December 2016, Stateside.
Despite making waves at London Film Festival and on social media, the film is currently awaiting a UK release date. I’ll be hiding behind my pillow until it is announced.
