Warning: Potential spoilers for Game of Thrones.
The new lady of Winterfell has been seen in some great outfits but there’s actually a dark, hidden meaning behind a new costume she’s been wearing.
Tucked under Sansa Stark’s rather fetching fur cape, is something totally cool – and nobody even knew.
In a new interview on HBO’s ‘Making Game of Thrones’ site, costume designer Michele Clapton revealed the meaning behind a new belt Sansa wears this season.

Michele told HBO:
Sansa’s cape, for instance, represents Ned and her desire to take on more of a leadership role at Winterfell.
This is her taking back control of her body. I designed it to wrap around over her side-laced dress to represent the absolute removal of any possible physical touch.
Her dresses are also tightly-laced on, incredibly difficult to remove – it’s a message to Littlefinger.
Michele also explained why many of characters this season, the Starks, Lannisters and Targaryens, have been wearing all black.
She said:
Winter has come, so I wanted to reflect the sombre mood, a closing down. There are discreet tones within the costumes, subdued hints of their sigil colours.
On dressing the newly-reunited Stark siblings, Michele said she ‘wanted to reflect how different they all are from their experiences’.
Adding:
There is something they have taken from their parents in the shape of a dress, the cut of a cape or the quilting details, apart from Bran who is so removed.
All the characters’ costumes are a consequence of the journey and lifestyle.
The secrets never end.
