Well, it turns out that the campaign has proven pretty successful so far, with 29-year-old Thom Feeney already having raised €1.8 million (£1.2 million).
It’s already being hailed as one of the most successful IndieGogo campaigns in history, with over 101,000 people donating to the fund over the course of the last week.
Greece is currently in arrears after it failed to pay back the €1.6 billion to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) before the deadline.
IndieGogoFeeney explained his motivations behind the campign on the Indiegogo page, saying:
All this dithering over Greece is getting boring. The European Union is home to 503 million people, if we all just chip in a few Euro then we can get Greece sorted and hopefully get them back on track soon. Easy.
Nobody will be obligated to pay their pledge unless the campaign reaches its goal of €1.6 billion.
And, unfortunately, things aren’t looking great on that front. Despite the incredible amount already donated, raising the remainder of the astounding sum within the next few days looks highly unlikely.
