The Joke About Melania Trump’s Favourite TV Show Writes Itself

Melania Trump has, perhaps, the most difficult task out of all the Trump household, which is being the only liked member of a family so polarising that it’s causing other families to not spend the holidays together.

Real talk, most people have a fairer view of the First Lady of the United Staes Of America than they do of President Donald Trump. Part of this may be down to the fact we hardly hear her say anything that would make us want to damage our own eardrums. Although Melania has been known to plagiarise the odd speech.

Which is why it’s quite surprising to hear her disclose her favourite TV shows to New York Times reporter Katie Rogers.

In her article for The NY Times, Kimmel, Covfefe, ‘Wonder Woman’: Washington on Pop Culture in 2017′ (with Matt Flegenheimer), Rogers claimed:

Melania Trump recently told me her favorite show is ‘How to Get Away With Murder.’ I love that the first lady is a Shondaland fan. She also enjoys ‘Empire.’

Perhaps even more surprising is the subject of ‘reality TV did not come up once’ in their conversation, which could mean the First Lady isn’t a big fan of the genre. This in itself is a paradox as the Trump machine is basically a never-ending reality show.

From his early days of helming The Apprentice to today as we watch the way President Trump runs his administration, you can’t help but feel he’s running the world’s most powerful country like I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. However, instead of Z-list celebs getting the boot it’s the ever-revolving members of the Trump cabinet.

According to Flegenheimer:

Trump has told aides that he views each day as a TV episode of sorts. And you can hear him read the stage directions sometimes, as our colleague Jonathan Martin likes to say. ‘Stay tuned!’ ‘We’ll be saying something big tomorrow!’

What’s interesting about Melania’s viewing choices is the people behind her favourite shows are some of her husband’s fiercest critics. How To Get Away With Murder’s executive producer Shonda Rhimes has labelled President Trump a ‘hypocrite’ for his attack on an African-American Army widow while at the same time lambasting NFL players for their protesting of the national anthem over racial injustice.

Empire creator Lee Daniels says Trump’s rise to power is a:

… reflection of who we are. He is our karma.

In another NY Times piece (which Trump loves to call ‘failing’) it claimed his attention span is not capable of digesting a feature-length film – in layman’s term, a long one.

The article claimed:

… he had trouble sitting through movies. That he knew in the first five minutes if he’d enjoy it or not. And he had no problem getting up and leaving.

Recently Melania took over responsibilities for decorating the White House over Christmas. However, the internet was quick to roast her ‘unique’ choice in style.

To be honest it does look like something the White Witch from The Chronicles of Narnia would be proud of.
