The Lion King Named Best Animated Film Ever

The Lion King is officially the best animated film of all time.

I know what you’re saying. What? How about Spirited Away? The Jungle Book? Pokemon: The Movie?

Alas, Hamlet performed by cartoon lions is what gets the public imagination ticking the most.

And for good reason. Let’s face it, The Lion King goes OFF. It’s got the animal kingdom, fighting, banter and Whoopi Goldberg.

In a poll undertaken by Ranker, the Disney smash from 1994 came up trumps.

As per the top ten:

  1. The Lion King
  2. Toy Story
  3. Finding Nemo
  4. Despicable Me
  5. The Incredibles
  6. Up
  7. Aladdin
  8. WALL-E
  9. Monsters Inc.
  10. Despicable Me Franchise

Look, I’m no grouch but Despicable Me fourth? Nah. WALL-E? Nope. I’m not a Monsters Inc. fan but I appreciate what it might mean to others.

Other than Toy Story and Finding Nemo, the list is pretty loose.

Hey, while I’ve got you: did you know that Mufasa and Scar weren’t even bros?

Disney

Hello Giggles spoke to the film’s producer, Don Hahn, who revealed some home truths about Mufasa and Scar’s relationship, he said:

[While making the movie] we talked about the fact that it was very likely [Scar and Mufasa] would not have both the same parents. The way lions operate in the wild… when the male lion gets old, another rogue lion comes and kills the head of the pride.

What that does is it causes the female lions to go into heat [to reproduce], and then the new younger lion kills the king and then he kills all the babies. Now he’s the new lion that’s running the pride.

Disney

He added:

There was always this thing about well, how do you have these two [male] lions? Occasionally there are prides that do have two male lions, in an interesting dynamic because they’re not equals [since they don’t have the same parents].

One lion will always kind of be off in the shadows. We were trying to use those animal truths to underpin the story so we sort of figured Scar and Mufasa couldn’t really be from the same gene pool.

In fact, that’s what [Scar] says. There’s a line, he goes, ‘I’m from the shallow end of the gene pool.’ When he’s talking to Mufasa, when Mufasa gets mad at him for not coming up to the coronation of Simba.

So even though Mufasa calls Scar his brother in the film, and he’s part of the lion family, he doesn’t belong and he’s the lesser of the two male lions – something he resented, which lead him on to do one over on his innocent brother.

Not sure what’s worse, them being brothers, or not. Either way, Mufasa should never have gone the way he did. Utterly tasteless and humiliating, but that’s nature!

Polls taken by humans about cartoons, that’s something else.
