The John Lewis Christmas advert has just been released, and with the year that we’ve had, its timing couldn’t have been better.
In just two minutes of footage, John Lewis has managed to mix together the right ingredients for a perfect Christmas advert to help ease our pain.
So if you’re a bit down given the outrageousness of 2016, Biff the Boxer is here to save you from this years’ shitstorm.
Does the new advert have snow and a Christmas tree? Check. Yultide joy? Check. Cute, fluffy animals jumping on a trampoline? Double check.
It’s exactly what we needed.
The retailer has aimed for a sense of fun in this year’s campaign, after 2016 had proved to be ‘quite a year’ (you can say that again). It also comes after the department store acknowledged that last year’s Man On The Moon was ‘a bit sad’.
The advert, shot on a set made to look like a townhouse in Black Island studios in London, cost around £1m to make and features CGI versions of a whole bunch of happy animals.
The department store is spending a further £6m on TV slots, including its debut screening at 9.15pm tonight and recreating a virtual reality version in its Oxford Street store, the Telegraph reports.
Craig Inglis, customer director at John Lewis, said:
2016 has certainly been quite a year, so we hope our advert will make people smile. It really embraces a sense of fun and magic, reminding everyone what it feels like to give the perfect gift at Christmas.
Yup, if ever we needed some holiday cheer, it’d be right about now.
