Game of Thrones is so synonymous with gruesome deaths it might as well be re-titled The Waiting Game Until Your Favourite Character Reaches Their Demise In A Flood of Blood And Gore (Or Maybe Poison).

From the moment Ned Stark was beheaded – quickly followed by the subsequent deaths of Ned Stark’s friends, kin and family pets – the Grim Reaper has wreaked havoc on HBO‘s epic reworking of the George R. R. Martin saga.

But apparently the macabre script writers have taken it easy on one character, who came a cropper in season five.

When Myrcella Baratheon was poisoned by Ellaria Sand, GoT fans were treated to a much-needed break from death by Needle, poison, Wildfire, getting your head caved in or your face boiled by molten metal.

Instead, the innocent fictitious youngster perished in her father’s arms drenched in a comparatively demure amount of fake blood… It was no Red Wedding, put it that way.

Admitting that the show actually had bloodier plans for her character at MCM London Comic Con, actress Nell Tiger Free revealed that she had braced herself for all the gore.

She explained:

I don’t know if I should say this, but originally what happened is they gave me those mashed up bananas with like fake blood, and my brains were supposed to be all over the ship and stuff. I was so excited. I don’t like gore, but I knew they were just like bananas, so I was okay with it.

You can watch Nell talk about her character’s death in the clip below from 7 minutes onward:

I guess if writers didn’t want her innocent character to go through too much trauma, it kind of explains why they totally fucked with Geoffrey when he kicked the bucket.
