The Queen travelled to Manchester to meet victims of Monday’s terror attack and thanked hospital staff who have been working tirelessly ever since.
The monarch spent time at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital speaking to Millie Robson, 15, Evie Mills, 14, and Amy Barlow, 12, who were among those caught up in the attack at Manchester Arena.
22 people were killed and more than a hundred injured in the attack which happened at an Ariana Grande concert at around 10:30pm on Monday.
According to Mail Online, while speaking to Evie, a schoolgirl from Harrogate, Yorkshire, and her parents, the Queen said: “It’s dreadful. Very wicked. To target that sort of thing”.
The Queen also thanked the hospital staff and paramedics who worked tirelessly to keep the children alive in the hours after the tragedy.
An eight-year-old girl was among those killed when Salman Abedi, 22, detonated a bomb minutes after the show had finished.
The Queen asked Millie, who suffered injuries to her legs, if she had enjoyed the concert before the attack, prompting the teenager to reveal she had won two VIP passes and met the global superstar backstage.
“It’s not something you expect at all,” the Queen said to father David, who was waiting at the exit of the arena for Millie when the bomb exploded.
The visit came shortly after people across the country held a minute’s silence to remember the victims.
Millions of people observed the silence marking the nation’s solidarity with those killed and injured in the attack and in respect of those affected by the atrocity.
