@therock/Instagram/GettyDwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has denied using the term ‘snowflakes’ to refer to the millennial generation.
The Daily Star alleged the 46-year-old San Andreas star used the word during an exclusive interview, accusing millennials of being overly sensitive.
Now, The Rock has hit back at the publication’s claims, insisting the interview was ‘100 per cent fabricated’.
The Daily Star article – entitled The Rock Hits Out At Snowflakes: Movie Star Dwayne Johnson Rages – alleged the semi-retired professional wrestler made the following comments:
I don’t have to agree with what somebody thinks, who they vote for, what they voted for, what they think, but I will back their right to say or believe it.
That’s democracy. So many good people fought for freedom and equality – but this generation are looking for a reason to be offended.
If you are not agreeing with them, then they are offended.
It was also reported Johnson said:
People can be who they want, be with who they want, and live how they want.
That can only be a good thing – but generation snowflake or, whatever you want to call them, are actually putting us backwards.
However, The Rock has now uploaded a video to Instagram where he described the quotes as being ‘completely untrue’, stating ‘criticizing ain’t my style’.
Addressing his 128 million followers, the action hero said:
I can’t believe I have to do this again and set the record straight on something, but I’m happy to do it,
Earlier today online an interview dropped with me — apparently with me. Where I was insulting and criticising millennials. The interview never took place. Never happened. I never said any of those words. Completely untrue.
He added:
One hundred percent never happened, I’ve gained such a great trust and equity with all of you guys all over the world over these years.
And you know it’s not a real DJ interview if I’m ever insulting a group, a generation, or anyone. Because that’s not me. That’s not who I am. And that’s not what we do.
Some people just want to chop down trees instead of planting seeds of growth. Hate is so hard to defeat, but you do a damn fine job of inspiring positivity among your millions of fans. From this bald-headed bourbon sipping millennial, crack on my friend.
