The Royal Wedding Date Has Been Announced

A date for next year’s royal wedding has been announced by Kensington Palace.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement last month, and the palace revealed they would be married at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in May.

The palace also announced the wedding will be paid for by the royal family – including the service, flowers, music, and the reception.

But today Kensington Palace announced the exact date of the royal wedding in a statement posted on Twitter.

It reads:

His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales and Ms. Meghan Markle will marry on 19th May 2018. Today’s announcement follows earlier confirmation of the month of the wedding and its location at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.

Of course, everybody is excited, especially because the 19th falls on a Saturday.

Harry and Meghan announced their engagement on November 27 and the first pics of the happy newly engaged couple surfaced after a photo call at The Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace set up to officially announce their news.

When the news was first announced, people immediately got all excited on the prospect of a Bank Holiday for the royal wedding, but it wasn’t to be.

Theresa May’s official spokesman, said:

There are no plans for a Bank Holiday. There isn’t a precedent in this area.

The spokesman also pointed out we didn’t get a Bank Holiday to mark the weddings of Prince Andrew in 1986 or Prince Edward in 1999.

Meghan, who is a Protestant, will be baptised into the Church of England and confirmed before the wedding day, according to reports.

Meghan will spend Christmas with the Queen and the family, who are breaking a royal tradition especially for her.

Kensington Palace confirmed the former Suits actress will join the family for festivities at Sandringham, in Norfolk, on Christmas Day.

Partners usually have to wait until they are married before being invited to spend Christmas with the Queen and family.

A Kensington Palace spokesman said:

You can expect to see The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry and Ms Markle at Sandringham on Christmas Day.

Kate Middleton, aka the Duchess of Cambridge, was not invited to join Prince William and the family for Christmas in 2010 despite announcing their engagement the month before.

The same year, former-England rugby ace, Mike Tindall was also not invited to join the family despite his engagement to Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Phillips.

There had already been speculation of Meghan’s invitation due to the fact her family are over in the US.

Meghan will likely join the congregation for the royal family’s annual morning service at St Mary Magdalene Church, which is in the estate.
