It was announced today Walt Disney have brought 21st Century Fox’s assets for an astonishing £39 billion.

After months of discussions, in the historic deal, Disney now own 21st Century Fox, 20th Century Fox Film Studios and a 39 per cent stake in Sky.

The deal is massive and now places Disney even further ahead of the rest of the competition, while Fox’s remaining assets, which includes their news channel, will form a new company.

Marvel Studios

As reported by Variety, Fox chairman Rupert Murdoch said:

We are extremely proud of all that we have built at 21st Century Fox and I firmly believe this combination with Disney will unlock even more value for shareholders as the new Disney continues to set the pace in what is an exciting and dynamic industry.

Furthermore, I’m convinced this combination, under Bob Iger’s leadership, will be one of the greatest companies in the world.

I’m grateful and encouraged Bob has agreed to stay on and is committed to succeeding with a combined team, second to none.

Disney

Bob Iger, Disney’s Chairman and CEO, said:

The acquisition of this stellar collection of businesses from 21st Century Fox reflects the increasing consumer demand for a rich diversity of entertainment experiences that are more compelling, accessible and convenient than ever before.

We’re honoured and grateful that Rupert Murdoch has entrusted us with the future of businesses he spent a lifetime building and we’re excited about this extraordinary opportunity to significantly increase our portfolio of well-loved franchises and branded content to greatly enhance our growing direct-to-consumer offerings.

The deal will also substantially expand our international reach, allowing us to offer world-class storytelling and innovative distribution platforms to more consumers in key markets around the world.

Disney

One group of people who knew the deal was going to happen before anyone else did was the team behind The Simpsons.

Not only did everyone’s favourite animated series predict Trump’s presidency, numerous celebrity deaths and Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl performance, but it also said this merger of Disney and Fox was coming.

During the episode When You Dish Upon A Star – which aired during the 10th season – our hero Homer can be seen sucking up to Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger.

Although this doesn’t sound like much, eerily a billboard features, which reads ’20th Century Fox (as it was known then) – a division of Walt Disney Co.’.

The strange reference was picked up on by several Twitter users who’ve been pointing out the weird prediction online.

Since Fox owns The Simpsons, the animated sitcom is actually part of the deal meaning Disney are now in control of the going ons in Springfield.

The predictions have been right too many times now for it to be coincidence surely?

Is this proof The Simpsons can indeed predict the future?
