Metal Gear Solid has long been loved for its shifting definition of good and evil, and this new trailer from Konami and Sony sets the stage perfectly for Big Boss’ fall from grace.
The Japanese trailer hypes up the fact that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be the last game of the long running series, and will finally shed some light on the true motives of antagonist/protagonist Big Boss. Focusing on the story of Metal Gear over the last 28 years, we see all the moments that made the franchise so memorable: wearing crocodile hats, hiding in boxes, using banana guns, hiding in boxes…
Uploaded by Sony, the trailer also plays on the fact that Metal Gear Solid and PlayStation have been best mates since forever, and that ’28 years of waiting will be rewarded’.
While it’s unknown whether the video is the final trailer to be edited by series creator Hideo Kojima, he hinted on Twitter recently that he was working on a trailer that would demonstrate the ‘evolution and harmony of Metal Gear‘. This could be seen as a jab at Konami, who edited the recent Gamescom trailer that many fans felt was too spoiler-y.
Konami also posted up this infographic of the Metal Gear Solid timeline, showing where Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will fit in.
