This crazy fan theory about Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs might just be correct.
The two classic Quentin Tarantino films have long been thought to be connected. But now a theory on Reddit has tied them together in a pretty convincing fashion.
Grab a brew, sit back and prepare to have your mind blown:
We all know PF and RD are connected, but we were never able to put them in a timeline. Of course, many people say RD is set on the very same day PF starts, or, at least, that PF is set after RD due to the dates they were released, but what if Pulp Fiction is actually set BEFORE Reservoir Dogs? And I’m not talking about days, I’m talking about years. First of all, what we know is that both movies are not explicitly set in any year, we simply assume that they are most likely set in 92 and/or 94 respectively, or at least by some year after 1986, because ‘Like A Virgin’ is already a thing and ‘A Flock of Seagulls’ is already old enough to people make fun of who dresses like them. Now, going to the theory, we also know that only a few of PF’s characters actually reach the end of the story alive and well, and that 4 of them are played by actors who also appear on RD, those actors being: – Steve Buscemi – Tim Roth – Harvey Keitel – Quentin Tarantino
Go on…
Steve Buscemi is the waiter dressed as Buddy Holly at Jack Rabbit Slim’s, the one who serves Mia and Vince. By the end of Pulp, the restaurant is closed (that’s a fact), leaving the waiter (let’s call him Buscemi) unemployed. Restaurants aren’t hiring waiters in LA, but Buscemi needs to pay his debts and eat, so he turns to a life of crime to make money quickly. He participates in minor heists, eventualy growing inside the criminal comunity, until he’s hired by Joe Cabot to participate in the diamond heist as Mr. Pink. When watching RD, you may notice that Mr. Pink is the only criminal that is nervous (except for Mr. Orange because, well, reasons), while the others are all chilled out, even with hell going down, this means that Mr. Pink wasn’t acquainted with that kind of situation, that he was a noob criminal, why? Because a couple years before that he was just an waiter, while all the other individuals have been in that line of work for over a decade. You know why Mr. Pink says he doesn’t believe in tips during the first scene? Because he was an waiter who didn’t receive them, or at least received very small ones, or maybe even received, but didn’t feel like they made a difference by the end of the month. He said he once worked a job that payed minimum wage, he was talking about his job as a waiter.
Well that makes sense.
Tim Roth is Pumpkin a.k.a. Ringo, a low life criminal with a low life criminal girlfriend, Yolanda a.k.a. Honey Bunny. By the end (or beginning) of Pulp Fiction, Jules convinces him to get out of the criminal life, but isn’t able to do the same for Yolanda, forcing them both to break up. With a head full of will to do good deeds, Pumpkin, who we find out later to be called Freddy Newandyke, becomes a cop. During RD, his fellow cops decide to put him as the undercover cop in the diamond heist because, since he was a criminal, it wouldn’t be hard for him to pretend to be one. During the heist, his name was Mr. Orange. Ironically, by trying to be a good person, he ends up with a horrible fate. PLUS, the restaurant where he meets that black cop in RD is the exact same one he robs in PF. More ironically, his alias on both movies refer to the color orange (Mr. Orange and Pumpkin).
Also possible.
Harvey Keitel is Winston Wolf, the fixer, someone with connections to the LA mafia and who can clean a car full of blood in minutes. This explains why nobody walking by the street noticed a car full of blood parked in front of the warehouse, because he cleaned the car after leaving Mr. Orange at the warehouse with Mr. Pink, and it also explains Mr. White’s friendship with Joe Cabot in RD. Actually, during ‘The Bonnie Situation’ in PF, we can clearly see that The Wolf has a close friend called Joe, said Joe could most probably be Joe Cabot himself (That girl Rachel could be Joe’s daughter, it wouldn’t make a single difference in RD, and plus, she does look like Nice Guy Eddie Cabot, so they could be brothers). Also, The Wolf cares a lot about his appearance (the man’s wearing a tuxedo for breakfast), just like Mr. White, who carries a comb during a heist and combs his hair in the middle of a situation like the one in RD.
And…
Quentin Tarantino is Jimmie Dimmick, Jules’ friend, whose house is used to park a car full of blood in PF. His relationship with Jules means he has ties with criminals, which means he is most probably also a criminal, ending up in his participation in the diamond heist as Mr. Brown. This means Mr. White and Mr. Brown met each other before the heist.
And then, by the end of RD, Mr. Pink is arrested and the other 3 end up dead.
This is my theory of why Pulp Fiction is set before Reservoir Dogs, probably a couple of years before.
So there you go. What do you make of that?
