After reporting yesterday that, according to science, octopuses are essentially aliens, today we bring you even more news from the sea dwelling alien world.

And this time it’s even creepier.

It turns out floating spaghetti monsters are real, according to this footage. A team from BP were carrying out routine operations near an oil well off the coast of Angola, when their underwater vehicle spotted this sea creature.

They sent the footage to Daniel Jones from the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, who identified it as some kind of siphonophore, a group of aquatic animals that include corals and jellyfish.

Some specimens can grow up to 40-metres in length, making them the world’s longest animals.

No thanks mate, think I’ll give the ocean a miss this summer.
