A girl who wrapped duct tape around a dog’s muzzle and strangled her to death with a lead has been given a four month prison sentence – and will most likely be out before it’s over.

Vile 22-year-old, Hayley Cowan, buried the Staffordshire Bull Terrier in a shallow back garden grave at her home in Tyldesley, near Wigan. The discovery was only made when friends of Cowan found and dug the dog out of the ground after becoming suspicious of her whereabouts.

The same people were previously worried after they saw her kicking the dog in the face some weeks before she killed her – and immediately alerted the authorities when they discovered Beau buried inside a bag.

RSPCA chiefs called the incident one of their most harrowing and distressing cases to date, and protesters are now calling for her sentence to be reviewed in hopes that it will be increased.

Cowan pleaded guilty to two charges of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal at Wigan magistrates court, where she was eventually sentenced and banned from keeping any animals as pets for life. She was also ordered to pay the RSPCA £500 in court costs.

Here are just some of the reactions made on Facebook in retaliation to the incident and her sentencing…

Inspector Vicki McDonald confirmed that Beau had died from strangulation from the tightening of a collar, while her muzzle was clamped together with duct tape. Bruising also suggested that she was held down during the incident.

The person who committed this atrocious act, Hayley Cowan, will be a free woman before Christmas.
