Joshua Hughes is probably relieved and embarrassed in equal measure after avoiding a prison sentence.
He was saved jail, simply because he was pretty crap at growing weed. Awkward.
The 20-year-old, from Stockton, bought a cannabis growing kit from a car boot sale and then like anyone does in 2016, he turned to YouTube for advice.
He tried his best, but a great horticulturist he was not. Hughes set up a watering, ventilation and lighting kit in his flat, where he nurtured his 40 plants, Gazette Live reports.
However, the police caught wind of Joshua’s amateur set-up when his landlord went to investigate a water leak back on July 13th last year.
He tried getting out of the potential jail sentence by claiming it was for personal use, but it turned out that he didn’t even need the excuse as he didn’t manage to grow a single incriminating bud.
As if this wasn’t bad enough already, his lawyer even slated his growing ability, saying Joshua didn’t have ‘neither the wit, expertise or dedication to maintain the growth. It was an inept attempt to cultivate for his own use.’
The judge summed it up pretty well too when he dished out a a six-month jail sentence suspended for two years and 100 hours unpaid work to Joshua. Concluding: ‘This was an incompetent grow from start to finish.’
Well that’s embarassing.
