This lad took the motto of “the customer is always right” to a whole new level, when he landed free pizzas for the rest of the year after he became the “object of desire” for both O2 and Three.

Dan May managed to play the two rival mobile phone operators off against each other after attempting to join a special offer one of them was running.

It all started when the 24-year-old replied to a tweet from O2 promising to send pizza to anyone who replied with their address.

However, when Dan failed to receive any of the promised free food, he took to Twitter to complain and even threatened to join Three instead.

So Three seized the opportunity to grab themselves a new customer, and they offered Dan five pizzas and four tubs of ice cream through Pizza Hut. Not bad.

But, not to be outdone, O2 stepped up to the plate and pledged to give Dan free pizza for the rest of the year!

Dan, a business development manager from Southend, Essex, said O2 have since got in touch and promised him a free Dominos pizza each week, until next year.

He said:

I couldn’t believe it. I only sent out a couple of tweets and they both went all-out to compete against one another. It’s a great marketing campaign, it really worked. I was really impressed with 3 after being disappointed by O2 but they certainly won the customer back.

An O2 spokesman added:

We often like to surprise and delight customers and we’re pleased that we were able to put a smile on @dpmay’s face by giving him free pizza until the end of the year.

Incredible work from this guy! Who knew Twitter could be so useful?
