Is Tom Hardy following in Daniel Craig’s shoes?

Rumours have been circulating for a while that the actor could be holding a Blaster Rifle soon as one of Star Wars upcoming stormtroopers, and if new on-set images are anything to go by, it may not be entirely false.

According to Making Star Wars, a website dedicated to Star Wars rumours that previously accurately reported on Craig’s cameo and the Han Solo twist, Hardy will not only have a part in the film, but have lines in it too.

Other reports suggest the actor will play a stormtrooper who used to know Finn when he was FN-2187, and slaps him on the ass as a form of greeting. Why? Because that’s exactly what a Tom Hardy stormtrooper would do.

Doing little to dispel the rumours, Hardy told the Hollywood Reporter:

I don’t know if I can even say that. Where did you hear that?… Ah, the internet is a glorious web of deceit and information, isn’t it?

It could be [misinformation] couldn’t it?

And now we may have proof.

Closer:

The photo, tweeted by Episode VIII director Rian Johnson, shows a bunch of First Order stormtroopers. And people think the guy in the back is Tom Hardy – but not everyone’s convinced.

First off, while the stormtrooper’s lips seem to fit the Tom Hardy bill, the rest of his face doesn’t.

Secondly, Daniel Craig’s cameo wasn’t confirmed until after The Force Awakens was released. Would the film’s director really blatantly give away one of the sequel’s best secret cameos in a tweet? Probably not.

But let’s not lose hope yet. We may still see an ass-slapping Hardy in The Last Jedi, even if that photo wasn’t him.
