NBCA new study has revealed exactly how much having a best friend actually costs you in your lifetime.
According to a study by TopCashback, maintaining a strong relationship with your BFF doesn’t come cheap – with the cost of keeping that bond strong cashing in at an average of £23,870, reports The Mirror.
Yep, according to the stats, you’ll spend £4,679 on birthday presents alone over the lifetime of a close friendship, with another £168 on gifts to help see your mate through those tough times like the break up of a relationship.
On average, we spend another £242 on presents to show our pals just how much they mean to us, including gifts bought on holiday and just little extra ‘treats’.
Long distances don’t seem to deter people either, as close friends fork out an eye watering £18,000 on travel to see each other despite being miles apart.
The study also found that, on average, a best bud who gets married can expect £431 to be spent on them through hen/stag dos – not to mention a further £283 on gifts when they have kids.
Moving house? Your closest friends will lavish you with £127 worth of house warming presents and takeaways – and will probably put in a shift with the physical work as well.
Although it sounds like a lot, the survey found that over 80 per cent of adults felt their friendships were easily worth the money.
TopCashback spokesperson Natasha Smith said:
From train tickets once a month to flights and a new dress for a wedding on the Italian coast, the price paid for having a best mate can soon add up.
But when we asked people to compare their friendship to the monetary investment, only 14 per cent thought their friendship was equal to their investment with the vast majority thinking it was worth more.
