This little lad won’t stop smiling, despite losing his leg, fingers and toes to meningitis at a very young age.
Taylor Marshall is now 11 months old, and three months ago he was struck with a form of meningitis called ‘Meningococcal Septicaemia type w’.
His mum, 22 year old Terri Lewsley, could only watch on as doctors gave Taylor hours to live, and was told to say her final goodbyes.
But the little lad is a fighter, and even though he ended up in a coma for 17 days, he somehow managed to pull through and survive.
Taylor unfortunately had to have his left leg amputated, along with all fingers and thumbs, and the toes on his right foot. Despite all this, doctors and nurses have been amazed at the little lad laughing and giggling the whole time he’s been in hospital.
His family are now trying to fundraise for the lifelong care that Taylor is going to need.
His mum, Terri, said:
Taylor has managed to keep a smile on his face throughout everything.
It was just a few weeks ago that I was told to say my final goodbyes to him.
I can’t believe what a little fighter he is, I knew he would lose his leg, fingers and toes when they all turned black.
Taylor’s kidneys also failed and he was left on dialysis.
It was horrifying but all I cared about was him surviving so I tried my best to stay positive.
Taylor will stay in hospital until around November as he needs regular skin grafts on his damaged skin.
We are determined not to allow meningitis to ruin Taylor’s future.
He was always such a happy, smiling baby before he was diagnosed and that hasn’t changed.
Taylor has amazed doctors with his fighting spirit and despite everything, he is still smiling. He’s such an inspiring little baby and I’m so proud of him.
