So, apparently a group of prisoners in Brazil were inspired by that scene in Orange Is The New Black, in which cockroaches were trained to smuggle cigarettes into jail.

And it turns out that sometimes the truth really is stranger than fiction, as a mouse has actually been caught smuggling drugs and other contraband inside the Barra da Grota prison in Araguaina.

Gean Carlos Gomes, director of the facility, claims he spotted the drug peddling mouse running through a prison corridor with drugs tied to its tail.

Further investigation uncovered 29 small packets of marijuana and 23 packets of cocaine, and guards have released video footage of the guilty mouse in question.

Police are now reportedly reviewing CCTV footage in an effort to find out who was the mastermind behind the madcap scheme and who trained the mouse.

Gomes said:

They attached a hook to the mouse’s tail and then used it to carry the drugs and other goods from one cell to another. When the animal arrived at its destination, the prisoner took the mouse and removed the hook from its tail.

The tiny smuggler was later released outside the prison walls, although whether a guy like him can survive on the outside will remain to be seen.
