An investigation has been launched after a criminal fitted with an electronic tag allegedly shot a woman to death – while confined to his home.
Quincy Green, appeared to be at home when Dana Hamilton was killed in Washington, reports Global News.
Green had been fitted with the tracking device and ordered to stay at home while awaiting trial on a gun charge.
But, according to CBS News Washington, the technician who fitted the device somehow managed to place it on Green’s prosthetic leg.
According to police documents, Green allegedly removed his prosthetic leg – along with the tracker – and used a second artificial limb to leave his apartment.
Dana Hamilton’s mother, Lillie Hamilton told CBS:
This is the worst that’s happened to me all my life and I’m 72 years old. Why would they put it on a prosthetic leg when it was supposed to go on the person’s real leg?
Apparently, this is the first time such a mistake has occurred – the company have placed nearly 5,000 of the devices – however the Washington D.C police union is understandably frustrated with the error.
Russell Mullins Jr, a spokesperson for the police union told Fox4.
I guess our biggest concern is we are out there every day putting our life on the line for citizens and making sure they are safe and then someone turns around and does something like this that lets them back out.
