A politician is apparently so angry with so-called ‘benefit tourism’ that he’s come up with a radical solution – mandatory chip implants in people’s heads.
People would be chipped to prove they are citizens of the country and to determine whether they are actually living in the country they are claiming from.
The bold idea comes from Pasi Mäenranta of the Finns party in Finland.
It follows media reports that Finnish claimants are signing up for benefits, then travelling abroad to fight for ISIS.
Mäenranta said:
One way is to insert the chip at all the people who travel abroad. The chip will be voluntary, but to leave the country, but that would mean that you can not get any contributions. We don’t know in what situations people go abroad. It is possible that our social benefits are used to provide for a lavish lifestyle in a country with lower cost of living. I hope for a change to this.
So we guess regular ID cards weren’t good enough for this guy? Drilling computer chips into every citizen’s head based on a hunch seems pretty extreme to us, but each to their own…
