Fan theories around the new Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens re-ignited on Friday as a full-length trailer was released with no warning on the Japanese version of the official Star Wars website.
This was followed on Sunday by the first TV spot for the highly anticipated movie and the 31-second clip has been seen by many to confirm the popular fan theory that Rey (Daisy Ridley) is related to characters from the original three episodes (that’s four, five, and six) of the George Lucas saga, more specifically that she is the daughter of Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford). It has also been accused of giving away a massive spoiler by others.
Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata) can be heard speaking throughout the short clip, saying:
I have lived long enough to see the same eyes in different people. I see your eyes. I know your eyes.
Cue the iconic music, explosions and snap shots of epic battle scenes and we are told that ‘Every generation has a story’ before Rey reaches out for Finn’s hand and instructs him to follow her.
The teaser has caused particular excitement among some fans as it featured new footage and a new voice over, despite the director insisting there would be no more new reveals until the film is released on December 18. Others claim it has given away one of the biggest plot developments the film had to offer. See for yourself.
Looks like the force will be strong with this one.
