One girl has bravely released a series of pictures of herself with 97% of her body covered in psoriasis sores, and declared that she finally feels comfortable in her own skin, and is beautiful.
Giorgia Lanuzza is only 24 years of age, and would previously cover her body in layers of clothes and try to hide the extent of her sores from others.
She initially developed the condition at 11, after her father was killed in a motorcycle accident at only 46 years of age, and by the time she was 13, found her body covered in sores.
She claimed:
I feel I have a responsibility to show other sufferers that we should all be proud of our bodies, no matter what some people think.
My psoriasis looks like red, raised spots and people looked at me as if I was disgusting and they might catch something. People would stop and stare at me in the street.
I felt so self-conscious about the condition that it was ruining my life.
Stressing about my flare-ups only made them worse, so now I look at my skin with a positive mindset.
Finally I’ve come to terms with my skin and realised that I am beautiful.
After all these years I want to show other women that their ‘abnormalities’ could be strengths.
There is no known cure for the condition, which is made worse in heat or during times of stress.
Giorgia now wants to start a campaign to raise awareness of the condition, and frankly, good on her for being so brave, and managing to become an inspiration to others who suffer from skin conditions as well.
