Utterly disgusting behaviour should be punished. Not only removed from the University, but be made to work voluntarily for 200 hours in a homeless shelter.

The video which was posted on Snapchat is believed to have been filmed on February 2 following a formal at Coyne’s college and reportedly shows the law student trying to set a £20 not alight in front of a homeless person.

Coyne’s mother has condemned his actions caling them ‘thoughtless and cruel’.

Speaking to The Daily Mail she explained:

It’s completely out of character. He did two years of volunteering at Stockbridge shelter homeless shop in Edinburgh when he was still at school.

He’s a quiet boy, he wasn’t a wild teenager, he was in chess club at school.

She added that Coyne had previously done a ‘homeless run’ with a friend where he handed out food an hot drinks to those on the streets.

A Cambridge University spokesperson said the institution was “aware” of the incident and that the incident had been referred to the University’s Disciplinary process although they refused to cannot comment further while the process is underway.
