Prepare to dig out your old aviator sunglasses because I feel the need, the need for speed… again.
That’s right Tom Cruise has confirmed that he’s once again taking to the air as maverick pilot Lieutenant Pete Mitchell in Top Gun 2.
Speaking on Australia’s Sunrise on 7 breakfast TV show the 57-year-old actor addressed rumours that he was working on a sequel to the classic 1986 film and he confirmed ‘it’s true’.
Cruise explained:
You know what? I’m going to start filming it probably in the next year…It’s happening. It is definitely happening.
Of course the fact that they’re making a sequel to Top Gun shouldn’t really come as too much of a surprise, Cruise has been banging on about making the film for years and back in 2013 producer Jerry Bruckheimer said that Tom was ‘excited’ for the project.
Tom’s also said that he and Jerry Bruckheimer are working on a version that will be ‘a lot of fun’ and it’s rumoured that the film would focus on the American military’s use of drones.
Val Kilmer is also apparently keen to appear in the film so it sounds like this project may actually take flight.
That said apparently Cruise will only appear if he flies real jets – we don’t even to think about that insurance premium.
What do you think the title will be? 2 Top 2 Gun, Top Gun: Flight of the Furious or Top Gun: Cruise Control?
More of a concept than a journalist, Tom Percival was forged in the bowels of Salford University from which he emerged grasping a Masters in journalism.
Since then his rise has been described by himself as ‘meteoric’ rising to the esteemed rank of Social Editor at UNILAD as well as working at the BBC, Manchester Evening News, and ITV.
He credits his success to three core techniques, name repetition, personality mirroring, and never breaking off a handshake.
