Tom Hardy Fancies A Return As Bane In DC’s New Cinematic Universe

Bane may have failed in his attempts to reduce Gotham to ashes in The Dark Knight Rises but, by the sounds of it, if Superman doesn’t take out the caped crusader in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice next year, then Tom Hardy wouldn’t mind reprising his role and having a crack at it himself.

The badass Bane was one of the most quotable villains from Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy and led to many an ill-advised vocal impersonation or Halloween fancy dress, and we imagine he’d be a popular choice to return to the big screen for DC Comics’ new direction under Zack Snyder.

While promoting his new movie Legend, MTV asked Hardy if he would like another run in the DC Universe, and the 37-year-old Brit was pretty enthusiastic about the idea.

First, he wondered aloud if George Miller, who directed Hardy on Mad Max: Fury Road, was going to be directing the Man of Steel sequel but the interviewer told him that was merely a rumour at this stage.

That news didn’t deter Hardy, however, and it seems he quite enjoys playing a violent psychopath on film.

He said:

Of course! I’m Bane! Somebody asked me, ‘Who would I want to win out in a fight between Superman and Batman?’ And I would like to hold the pair of them under the water until the bubbles stop.

Wow, Tom. That escalated quickly!

Sadly, it doesn’t look like the fire will rise again anytime soon. The idea probably won’t become a reality since the new DC movies are unconnected to Nolan’s trilogy and a Bane appearance would only complicate matters. But, hey, we can dream, right?
