Tom Petty has been rushed to hospital after being found unconscious Sunday night following a cardiac arrest, TMZ report.

Emergency services rushed to the singer’s Malibu house and took him off to Santa Monica hospital straight away where he was put on life support.

His condition remains unknown but it is believed Petty was in a critical condition.

Petty found fame with the Heartbreakers back in the 1970s.

He has just come off the back of a tour that ended at the Hollywood Bowl last Monday.

The tour was in celebration of 40 years with the Heartbreakers.

Petty met guitarist Mike Campbell back in 1970, telling him ‘You’re gonna be in my band forever’ after he performed ‘Johnny B. Goode.’

The two went on to from Mudcrutch, which later got renamed to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Mike Campbell told Rolling Stone earlier this year:

We grew up together and we love playing together more than playing with anybody else.

We’ve been through so much together. I don’t want to name names, but a lot of bands go out together and they just don’t like each other. They’re making a lot of money and just clocking in.

We’ve never been like that, and we have a chemistry and a telepathy between us that is really rare.

When it came to recording a new studio album, Petty said:

We’ll get around to that when we can. But I’m in no hurry to do that now. I do have a contract where I owe my label a record every couple of years, but I always go over that and they always indulge me. I bring them over and show them what I’m working on so they know I’m not just doing nothing. They’re understanding.

They headlined Arroyo Seco Weekend, a new festival outside the Rose Bowl back in June.
