With 2016 having been such a big pile of shit, the best way we can reminisce about it is to look back at the highlight real.
What were the year’s greatest events? Funniest moments? What will 2016 be remembered for?
While the answer to the latter will surely be unfortunate amounts of terrorism, racism and misogyny, there were also a few good things about the last 365 days.
With all the heartwarming, hilarious and questionable viral videos 2016 brought us, we did laugh a lot, and it’s safe to say the year will also be remembered for a lot of viral content.
Thanks to YouTube, we now know which videos trended the most throughout the year.
Here are the top 10 most-watched videos of 2016.
1.Carpool Karaoke with Adele
James Corden’s smash-hit Carpool Karaoke reached its peak with Adele’s cameo. The legendary singer and her pipes took a drive with James through some rainy English streets and garnered over 141 million views, making it the most-viewed video on YouTube’s list.
2.Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen
No one really understands what’s going on in this video, but that didn’t stop people from watching it 102.2 million times.
The video was actually picked up by Justin Bieber, who said it was his favourite video on the Internet. While that’s probably not true, the costume design in this video is impeccable.
3. What’s Inside a Rattlesnake Rattle?
The father-son ‘What’s Inside?’ duo took on a rattlesnake tail to figure out what really makes it rattle. The answer? Not much. But it gained the curiosity of millions of people and garnered 61.5 million views.
4. The Switch ft. Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane, Anthony Martial & More
Think of Freaky Friday but with Cristiano Ronaldo and a young wannabe player. The Nike ad puts the power of hard work front and centre, gaining 58.3 million views.
5. Grace VanderWaal: 12-Year-Old Ukulele Player Gets Golden Buzzer
A tear-jerker. Ukulele wonder child Grace VanderWaal made an incredible performance on America’s Got Talent that earned her a shoutout from Taylor Swift and Reese Witherspoon – and 48.2 million views.
6. Water Bottle Flip Edition
YouTube pranksters Dude Perfect throw water bottles at various things – and they land perfectly every time. It’s got 45.1 million views.
7. Channing Tatum & Beyonce’s ‘Run The World (Girls)’ vs. Jenna Dewan-Tatum’s ‘Pony’
Hands down the best Lip Sync Battle we’ve seen on the show, complete with a cameo from Queen B herself. It’s at 37.4 million views.

John Oliver’s weekly HBO show was known for its scathing political reports in 2016, but his most popular landed him 31 million views for his twenty-one-minute segment from February on now-president-elect Donald Trump.
9. The $21,000 First-Class Airplane Seat
YouTube video personality Casey Neistat brought out the jealousy in all of us Economy-flying peasants when he was bumped up to a first-class, $21,000 seat on his Emirates flight. His peek into mile-high luxury scored him 28.1 million views.
10. Brothers Convince Little Sister of Zombie Apocalypse
Like any good sibling would, these two brothers took advantage of their sister’s compromised mental state after her wisdom tooth removal to convince her that there was a zombie apocalypse. The elaborate hoax landed them 22.4 million views.
