It sounds like something from a Final Destination movie as Travis Barker has revealed his young daughter actually predicted the plane he was on would crash.
The Blink 182 drummer has revealed the story in his new book Can I Say: Living Large, Cheating Death, and Drums, Drums, Drums, claiming that his daughter, Alabama, actually foretold the crash which claimed the lives of two of his friends and two pilots, while leaving him in a critical condition.
According to a report in the New York Post, the 39-year-old rocker recalls how his three-year-old daughter (now nine) was frantic with worry about him leaving on the day in question on September 19 2008, warning that “the roof’s gonna come off, Dad”.
Later, when he saw a photograph of the aftermath of the crash, he noticed that the roof of the private Learjet 60 had indeed been torn off just as his daughter had predicted. Spooky!
The private jet burst into flames after it blew out a tire and, after attempting to abort the landing, the plane smashed through the fence of a South Carolina airport.
Along with the two pilots, Barker’s personal assistant Chris Baker and bodyguard Che Still, were both killed. The only other survivor from the crash, Barker’s close friend and collaborator Adam ‘DJ AM’ Goldstein, died of a drug overdose in August 2009 – a combination of cocaine and the drugs he was prescribed to deal with the crash.
In an excerpt from the book printed in US Weekly, Barker recalled:
I panicked. I pulled the handle on the emergency exit and kicked the door open. I jumped out — right into the jet wing, which was filled with fuel. My whole body got covered with fuel and caught fire, from my legs all the way to my back. I started running. As I ran, I took off my shirt, I took off my hat, I took off my shorts — but I couldn’t get the fire off me.
I was naked, moving as fast as I could, holding my genitals — everything else was on fire — and I kept running, hoping that would put out the flames. At that moment, I felt like I was running for my family. I didn’t care about anything except being with my kids, my father, my sister, Shanna…I didn’t think I was going to survive.
Barker suffered third-degree burns on 65 per cent of his body in the accident, and spent 11 weeks in hospitals and burn centres undergoing 16 surgeries and numerous skin grafts.
In the book, Barker also reveals he’s had a lifelong fear of flying and said he was convinced as a teenager that he would die in a plane crash. After all this, it’s no surprise that Travis refuses to get on planes anymore!
Meanwhile, we reckon it’s probably only a matter of time now until Alabama Barker gets her own David Blaine-style TV show in which she predicts the future…
