Trump Facing Major Backlash After Latest Comments Go Way Too Far

If you thought it was impossible for Donald Trump to sink any lower, this may change your mind.

The U.S. presidential candidate is facing widespread condemnation after making controversial remarks about the mother of a dead American Muslim soldier killed in Iraq.

Ghazala Khan’s son, Humayun, was killed by a car bomb in 2004 in Iraq at the age of 27.

On Thursday, she stood silently as her husband, Khizr Khan, called out Trump and his anti-Muslim views in a speech at the Democratic National Convention, the Huffington Post reports.

Khizr said to Trump in his speech: “You have sacrificed no-one and nothing.”

The Republican nominee, whose flagship policy promise is to ban all Muslims from entering the U.S. and to build a wall on the Mexican border, responded this weekend.

Trump told ABC News he has made ‘a lot of sacrifices’, and went on to suggest Ghazala wasn’t allowed to speak at the convention.

After stating that the ‘sacrifices’ he has made were working ‘very very hard’, creating ‘thousands and thousands of jobs’, building ‘great structures’, and having ‘tremendous success’, he said:

If you look at his wife, she was standing there. She had nothing to say. She probably, maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say. You tell me.

But on MSNBC, Ghazala explained she was ‘very nervous’ about the speech and made clear her distress when she sees her son’s picture, adding: “I couldn’t take it and I controlled myself at that time, so it’s very hard.”

Yesterday, Khizr Khan said in an interview with CNN:

[Trump] is a black soul, and this is totally unfit for the leadership of this country. The love and affection that we have received affirms that our grief ― that our experience in this country has been correct and positive. The world is receiving us like we have never seen. They have seen the blackness of his character, of his soul.

Trump inevitably took to Twitter, where he somehow played the victim in all of this:

Perhaps John Oliver put it best when he called Trump a ‘damaged, sociopathic narcissist’ in response to his controversial comments:

The main takeaway from these two weeks is that, incredibly, we may be on the brink of electing such a damaged, sociopathic narcissist that the simple presidential duty of comforting the families of fallen soldiers may actually be beyond his capabilities. And I genuinely did not think that was a part of the job that someone could be bad at.

Trump’s comments regarding the Muslim community have proved to be totally inaccurate and disgusting – unfortunately, this is just one of many for the presidential hopeful.
